I was listening to a podcast called “Happiness… and How to Get It” by Mary- Ann Ochota and Charlie George and they said how placing yourself in nature can help you gain happiness and become active. Being isolated in the house can make you feel lazy and uninspired; exploring the world and places you have never visited can help change your emotions significantly. The Audible Original by amazon titled Happiness and how to get it has been great inspiration so far during the production of my Folklore project. The duo Mary- Ann and Charlie discuss different ways and methods of gaining happiness, each episode being a different topic. Episode two "Force of Nature" is one that inspired my work greatly however as it involved exploring the outdoors. the past year, the entire of the UK have been under strict lockdown rules due to the Coronavirus, my project involved coping during this time, finding a new way of living and, because of my anxiety, finding ways of de- stressing and being happy. to further my project, I wanted to explore the outdoors more, this podcast told us about how going outside and being one with nature can increase your happiness, change your mood for the better; this inspired me to create some images of the outdoors and experience this for myself. what was also explained is just looking at a photograph for a certain amount of times of something 'Nature like' would also bring you happiness (this being an alternative to not having an opportunity to go for a walk or be outside.) because of this podcast, I have started producing a series of images that embraces the outdoors, changing the way people feel about being indoors for such a long amount of time because of the lockdown, as looking at a photograph of nature can alter the way someone feels.

I would 100% recommend listening to this podcast series, they bring in researchers and professionals to talk about how to make people live their best and joyful lives. it has helped me change the way I live for the better, I feel a lot more confident, happy and ready to take on any obstacles that come my way. there are 10 episodes in total, they explore different topics such as sleep, exercise and dealing with stress, something we all need a little bit of help with during these difficult times.

if you are feeling stressed/ unhappy, remember that being with nature can alter your emotions, try going on walks, exercise outside or even just look at a photograph of a beautiful landscape. this lockdown is effecting everyone and giving us emotions we are not used to, we need to try our best to make ourselves feel good again. go outside and embrace nature, forget your troubles and enjoy the beauty of the natural life.
